William Couch

September 2020

Cloth simulations and surface design help transform simple geometric shapes into an inviting living room scene. Details are below.

Using an inflation simulation on rectangular boxes, I created gently stuffed cushions and pillows that jostle for space on the couch’s frame. Microscopic seam texturing along the edges help fool the eye while keeping data requirements for the scene low. The throw blanket is a simple plane coded with physical restraints and then dropped on to the scene, causing it to flow naturally with the contours of the couch.

This project was completed following a tutorial to recreate the William Couch by Zanotta. I modeled, textured, lit, and styled all elements of these scenes except the rug.
